Introducing Alumni Ambassador Ethan Bousoula!

10 Apr 2025

Ethan Bousoula from Enfield Grammar School in Enfield took part in the Enfield  Regional Final in 2022-23.  Their speech, ’It Doesn’t get Better”, saw them take first place and was then selected as one of only 15 speakers to go through to the Grand Final at the Cambridge Theatre.  The competition was very strong but Ethan blew the judges away with their insightful yet witty speech and went on to become Grand Final Champion in 2023!  Ethan won £3000 for their school and £2000 for themselves to go into a saving account.

Ethan is now part of our Alumni Ambassadors Group which is composed of young speakers who have taken part in the “Speak Out” Challenge! with the aim of sharing their experience of every aspect of the programme from in-school workshop through to the Grand Final. Their purpose is to help shape improvements for the future young people that will participate in Jack Petchey’s Speak Out Challenge!

Since 2023, Ethan has taken part in various Speakers Trust events including a visit to Corpus Christi College, Cambridge University, a reception at Westminster Palace and joined the judging panel at the Grand Final 2024.

Finally, on hearing their speech, Ethan would like people “to realise that waiting on people to change and giving people control of your own self worth and happiness is the biggest mistake you could make.  It’s not worth any of your time ever feeling inadequate because somebody else can’t appreciate you and accept you.  Growing as a person is important, learning from your mistakes is important but being someone you aren’t for other’s approval is a mistake.”
