Elizabeth Noble wins place at Grand Final

11 Nov 2020

2020 is an unprecedented year with change and adapting to the new being key features for all of us. This year Jack Petchey’s “Speak Out” Challenge! Will not take place at Cambridge Theatre, instead we are live streaming with pre-recording speeches broadcast from a London film studio on Tuesday 1st December.

From the 20,000 young people who took part in the “Speak Out” Challenge! this year, we are thrilled to announce this year’s Grand Finalists, some of whom became Regional Champions and some Digital Final Champions. In no particular order, please meet the first of our Grand Finalists.

We are delighted to share our eleventh Grand Finalists, congratulations Elizabeth Noble.

Elizabeth represented Hampton High in Richmond at Digital Final 5 her a speech titled ‘Carpe Diem’. Her speech was adapted during lockdown to reflect and respond to the difficulties we all faced but her message remains the same; “grab hold of every fleeting opportunity you can.”

We asked Elizabeth, why do you think it’s important for young people, like you, to share their stories?

“Our curriculums and mainstream media tend to only show certain types of experiences and view. When a diverse group of young people start sharing their stories and opinions, we are exposed to new ways of thinking and new opportunities to grow.”

How would you like people to think / act differently from hearing your story?

“I want to encourage people to take every opportunity they can – make bold choices, don’t hold back. I hope that, when looking back on their lives, there is no thinking ‘what if’, no regret in the choices that have lead them to where they are.”

And finally, what three top tips on life would you give a Year 7 student?

“Never be afraid of to do something because it’s labelled ‘cliche’ or ‘alternative’ or fits a certain stereotype. Live your life exactly how you want to – experience everything to want to experience regardless of what others expect.

Relax. Every thing will work out just as it should.

Academic intelligence does not determine how smart you are. There are hundreds of different ways to be smart – don’t ever define yourself by just one.”

See Elizabeth share her message.
