Jack Petchey’s “Speak Out” Challenge! is BACK

28 Sep 2020

It has been an unusual and unsettling year for everyone – and that is why we are determined to continue our work running Jack Petchey’s “Speak Out” Challenge!. Now, even more than ever, we believe students need the opportunity to speak up and be heard, to understand and support one another and to realise their own potential.

Every school is different, so we have spent the summer working hard to make sure we can offer a workshop to suit all circumstances or restrictions.

  • Covid-safe In-School workshops – available now
We are still offering live, in-school workshops and we have taken these steps to ensure that they are safe and successful:

1) Risk Assessment – We have created this comprehensive risk assessment that covers how we will mitigate the risks of workshop delivery. We have developed this in line with HSE and government guidelines and in consultation with other organisations working in schools.

2) Training – Our delivery team has been trained in Covid-19 safe delivery, and each of them has signed an agreement to adhere to our policies.

3) Flexibility – Each school has different guidelines and policies and we will always abide by yours when we are at your school. Our Trainers will provide their own PPE, practise social distancing and sanitise all resources.

  • Digital Workshops – launching in November
We have also been working on a digital alternative to the live workshops. It is important to us that these work for everyone, so we have created two options.

1) Self-guided Modules – We have turned our workshop into an online, self-guided course. This consists of five video modules that students can access and complete in their own time. There is no live contact time with the trainer so this is a good option for schools where students are remote and unable to access live teaching through platforms like Zoom.

2) Trainer Zoom in the Classroom – This workshop is designed for schools who have resumed live, in-school teaching but are unable to bring external practitioners on-site. The trainer will use an online delivery platform like Zoom to guide students in the classroom through the Speak Out Challenge in three sessions. All we need from you is a screen/projector in the classroom and a lead teacher to support students through their sessions.

We believe that every challenge also represents an opportunity and we hope our digital workshops will make the Jack Petchey’s Speak Out Challenge accessible to even more students. The next generation will need the skills to speak up, be heard and make real change and we are here to help them do that.
